Lately I’ve been falling in love with a new part of my creative process — making my own handmade paper from all the scraps I collect while creating notepads, planners, and stationery. I’ve always hated wasting beautiful paper, and finding a way to recycle every tiny piece feels like magic.
This week I finally sat down with a pile of scraps and started cutting everything up. I had enough to make roughly 50 sheets of 5"x7" paper… or at least that was the plan! My first batch actually came out closer to 4.5"x6.5" — so that’s something I’ll be tweaking as I go. But honestly, that’s the charm of handmade work. Every step is a little experiment. You never know what you'll get until you begin to put it all together. I think this is my favorite part or being a creative. Sometimes its disappointing and doesn't turn out quite the way you wanted, and other times it surprises you with an unexpected masterpiece!
I spent about five hours playing with the process, and I ended up making eight gorgeous sheets. Watching that pulp blend together, dipping the mold, and then seeing the sheet slip off so smoothly… it was unbelievably satisfying. I didn’t expect them to turn out as beautifully as they did, and I’ll admit — I surprised myself!
There’s something special about taking scraps that would normally be tossed aside and giving them a brand new life. Every sheet has texture, character, and those perfectly imperfect details that only handmade paper can have. I’m already dreaming up what I’ll create with them next.
If you’ve ever wanted to try making your own paper, I highly recommend it — it’s relaxing, rewarding, and a little bit addicting. And as for me? I can’t wait for my next paper-making session… and to see just how many more scraps I can save from the trash and turn into something beautiful. Now that I know and am comfortable with the process, I will be making tons more! Be sure to watch out for them on the site!
